Abstract

The ability of communication and problem solving in mathematics learning need to be developed. Mathematical communication skills is the ability of students to communicate something that is known through dialogue events. Messages are routed in a dialog about the material students are learning math, for example in the form of concepts, formulas, or a problem-solving strategies. The role of communication in mathematics is very large, because when students communicate ideas, ideas or concepts of mathematics, they learn to clarify, refine and unify thinking. Mathematical problem solving skills to be an attempt to seek resolution of difficulties that require creativity, understanding and thinking. The problem solving skills require understanding of the concept. These skills are classified by level of complexity from the simplest to the most complex level. Problem-solving ability is one of the goals of learning mathematics. Communication skills and problem solving can be developed together in the learning process. Train students in order to have the communication skills and mathematical problem solving can be pursued by guiding students to investigate a problem, write down the problem, provide information (notation) or guesses (hypotheses) to explain the observations in mathematics.
